Registration

If you have not registered or have moved since the publication of the Electoral Register on 1 December 2018 you will need to register prior to the election. The deadline to register is Friday 12 April 2019 and should be made via www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.  However you may be required to provide documentary evidence to support your application so please register in good time.

Poll cards

Every registered elector in Spelthorne who is eligible to vote in this election will be sent a poll card confirming which method of voting they have in place, eg by postal vote, by proxy or in person at the polling station. These poll cards will be sent on or around 25 March 2019 Please check the details and let us know of any problems as soon as you receive it, however, the poll cards are printed a month before they are sent out so may not show any recent amendments ie change of name.

Different ways to vote

There are three ways to vote, in person at the polling station, by post or using a proxy voter.

Postal voting

Applications can be made for a single election, for a specified period or permanently. You can apply for a postal vote at any time until 5pm on Monday, 15 April 2019. The deadline for making changes to or cancelling existing arrangements is also 5pm on Monday 15 April 2019. Postal voting arrangements are only available to those electors who are registered under the new Individual Electoral Registration process.  You should contact Electoral Services on 01784 444218 or electoral.services@spelthorne.gov.uk to establish if you are eligible to vote by post.

Postal voting packs will be dispatched around 15 April 2019 and are sent by Royal Mail 1st class. Postal packs for late postal vote applications will be sent later so please ensure you apply as early as possible to enable us to get your ballot papers to you when required.

Completed postal votes need to be returned to the Returning Officer by 10pm on 2 May 2019. If you miss the post you can hand your completed postal vote into any polling station in the ward or at the Council Offices at Knowle Green

Voting in person at a polling station

Polling stations will be open from 7am - 10pm on Thursday 2 May 2019. Details of your polling station can be found on your poll card or on My Spelthorne.  Please check carefully where your polling station is located as it may have changed since you last voted.

Proxy voting

This means appointing someone to vote on your behalf at your polling station.

You can apply for a proxy vote at any time until 5pm Wednesday 24 April 2019. You will need to tell the person you have appointed as your proxy which candidates you wish to vote for once the candidates' details have been made available. Both you and your proxy need to be registered under the new Individual Electoral Registration system.  Contact Electoral Services to check if you are eligible to vote in this way.
