Fly-posters are posters, banners or signs put up without permission or in non-authorised locations. They range from adverts for pop concerts and bargain furniture to home-made banners celebrating birthdays or wedding anniversaries.

Fly-posting is an illegal, unsightly and anti-social activity that creates a negative impression of an area. Fly-posting can also be a dangerous activity as roadside banners and unauthorised signs may cause a distraction to motorists

Those caught in the act of fly-posting can be issued with a maximum fixed penalty fine of £80.

Leaving leaflets on car windows is also an offence under the Road Traffic Act as it obstructs the view of the driver.
