Enterprise M3 Business Support Portal

The Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) has a mainly strategic role in the area and does not offer business support services directly. Instead it has developed a business support portal that provides links to business support options available in the Enterprise M3 LEP area.

Provide free, impartial, and confidential advice and support. One-to-one business support and workshops available for start ups and established businesses. Most services are free as a result of sponsorship received from local authorities and the private sector. Free business mentor service also available. Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS)

Helps manufacturers improve their business. Support for SMEs is often either free or subsidised. Support currently (1 January 2012) includes: a free helpdesk and research service; a free manufacturing review for SME manufacturers; training & networking events and best practice visits (free and subsidised), and; potential subsidised consultancy support for SMEs. The MAS service is now being delivered by the Manufacturing Advisory Consortium (MAC) and contact should be made through the National Helpline number below.

Surrey Libraries Information Service

Offer a remote enquiry and information service to people and businesses in the Surrey area. Surrey Libraries also offer access to start-up information, market intelligence, credit checks and British Standards. A research service is also available, though complex queries (over 20 mins research) will attract a cost.

The FSE Group

The Group manages a number of funds dedicated to bridging the funding gap for innovative growth companies. Interested parties need to be able to demonstrate the potential for significant growth to access funds to help them to grow, whether they are a pre-start, start-up, early growth or established company. Sustainable Routes

Offer a 50% grant (ERDF) of up to £1,000 to established small and mediumsized businesses who are looking to cut travel costs by adopting new ways of working. Businesses have to have been trading more than 12 months and have turnover higher than £40,000. Franchises are not included. Businesses need to be located in the South East of England - Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes, Hampshire and Isle of Wight, Kent and Medway, Oxfordshire, Surrey and Sussex. Businesses who register can receive a personalised travel efficiency plan and a match funded grant of up to £1,000. Examples of funded projects include laptops for employees to work remotely; server upgrade to support remote working; bicycles, storage and showers to encourage use; LPG conversions. Capitalise Business Support Ltd

Part of the Let's Do Business Group. Offer possible business loan finance to existing businesses and in some circumstances to start-ups. Businesses need to be based in either Sussex, Kent, Surrey, Hampshire or the Isle of Wight and to have experienced difficulties in accessing mainstream forms of finance or been unable to raise sufficient finance through that route.

Fredericks Foundation - South East

The Fredericks Foundation will consider clients for a loan and business support if they can demonstrate that they have made a genuine application for funds to their bank or a mainstream lender - and that you have been turned down. The business can be at any stage including start-up, needing capital to expand, or funds to bridge a gap. The client could be a sole trader, in a partnership or have a limited company. The maximum loan for start-up businesses is £10,000, though the average loan is less than £5,000. For established businesses with a financial track record the maximum loan is £20,000. Loans are not available to support training.

Start-up Loans for Young People (18-30)

The scheme offers personal loans of around £2,500 and business training / mentoring to young people. Clients with a great business idea who believe it has real potential can contact the Let's Do Business Group to find out how they can help turn the ideas into a successful and sustainable business. Note: if the client is 18-30 and has already started their business, they can still apply provided they are still in 'start-up phase' and have been trading for less than a year.
