The Runnymede and Spelthorne Volunteer Awards held on Tuesday 4 June recognised and celebrated the dedication of local volunteers honouring those who have made a positive impact on our community. The awards ceremony held at Royal Holloway University London, are hosted by Royal Holloway Volunteering and Voluntary Support North Surrey, with the support of Runnymede and Spelthorne Borough Councils, and Enterprise Rent-A-Car.
The guest speaker was Wendy Solesbury MBE, National Youth Development Manager for British Red Cross, with a clear message of the "power of kindness". Revelaires, a local amateur dance company put on a special performance to the enjoyment of the crowd.
This year the judging panel included Phil Simcock, Community Action Volunteer Manager at Royal Holloway University of London, Arthur Birkby, Chairman of Voluntary Support North Surrey, and representatives from Enterprise and the Runnymede and Spelthorne Borough Councils.
It was a wonderful evening, with awards presented by the mayors of Runnymede and Spelthorne, celebrating the hard work and dedication of the volunteers in our community.
We have various opportunities for volunteers in Spelthorne including Walking for Health, Cycling for Health, community gardening, sports clubs, community centres. Unemployed people can also find volunteering and work experiences opportunities through the Job Centre.
