Working with us

Our Values

Accountability - We are accountable to our residents, businesses, the Government and the wide range of partners we work with. We understand our political, statutory, social, ethical and moral responsibilities. With the co-operation of our partners we will develop our economy, keep our Borough clean and safe and help people when they are in need.

Self-reliance - The Council recognises the value of a strong, diverse voluntary sector and supports this whenever possible. We will ensure that those in need are signposted to the services available within the Borough or through our partners. We will therefore focus our limited resources on those most disadvantaged and in need.

Community - We want to develop strong, thriving, cohesive communities where people have an affinity for the place where they live and work. We recognise the importance of working with community groups, volunteers and other partners to deliver the essential services that people need and will seek their views on how these things should be tackled.

Opportunity - We believe in creating equal opportunity for all our residents so everyone can achieve their aspirations. We believe in good schooling, a thriving local economy, attractive leisure facilities, and the support of a strong family and social network.

Tradition - We recognise the importance of our heritage, history and tradition and the Mayor supports these values within the community.

Equality and Diversity

We are an equal opportunities employer and embrace the values of diversity in all aspects of employment and in the delivery of services. As a responsible employer, the Council will conduct its affairs in a manner which will not unlawfully and unjustifiably cause disadvantage to any employee or job applicant on the following grounds: age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity, race, sexual orientation, religion or belief or marriage and civil partnership.

As users of the Disability Confident Scheme, we guarantee to interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum essential criteria for the vacancy/ies.
