Pupil performance improves across Spelthorne

Press release from Spelthorne Joint Committee Spelthorne Education Action Group

A report presented to the Spelthorne Joint Committee by the Spelthorne Education Action Group (SEAG) has highlighted notable improvements in educational outcomes in the borough.

EAG was set up in 2014 to improve standards for children through collaboration, with a particular focus on vulnerable learners. By working with schools and other partners to drive up standards, share expertise and promote innovation, the Group has helped to bring about an increase in the number of pupils - including disadvantaged pupils - achieving or exceeding expectations in KS1 and KS2.

2017 KS4 results show Spelthorne pupils performed above the national average in terms of Attainment 8, Progress 8 and achieving A*-C / 9-5 at GCSE (including English and Maths). The same is true for Spelthorne's disadvantaged pupils, who now perform significantly better than their peers nationally across the same key measures.

Commenting on the success of the Group's work, its chairman Cllr. Jean Pinkerton said, "The Spelthorne Education Action Group has not only achieved its original remit but exceeded expectations. It has proved that effective partnerships coupled with good, consistent lines of communication can have a positive outcome."
