Cllr Barnard has lived in Shepperton for 18 years. He is very active in the local community and a member of the Shepperton Arora Rotary Club. He sings in the church choir, is a keen musician and enjoys researching family history. He has a love of the River Thames and all things nautical and enjoys spending time sailing his boat in local waters. His wife Barbara will join him as Mayoress for his year in office.

The Mayor's proposed charities* for 2020/21 are: -

  • Shooting Star Children's Hospices: a leading children's hospice charity caring for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families
  • Spelthorne District Scouts: building and developing young people's confidence, sense of adventure and outdoor skills, as well as encouraging them to explore their beliefs and attitudes

After being sworn in as Mayor, Cllr Barnard said: "I am honoured and proud to accept the office of Mayor for 2020/2021 and I should like to thank all the councillors for the honour they have bestowed upon me."
