Spelthorne Borough Council, in partnership with Surrey County Council and Public Health England, has held the first two interactive sessions with our Covid Champion representatives.

When Spelthorne Borough Council went onto the Government's Watch list in September, Cllr Sinead Mooney, Surrey County Councillor for Staines, suggested we be the pilot for the Covid Champions scheme.

Cllr Sinead Mooney said: "As the County Councillor for Staines I am proud to be working on this scheme in Surrey and believe it will have a profound impact on the people of Spelthorne. We all need to support our community and ensure effective, informative and timely communications are reaching our residents. The Covid Champion scheme presents an opportunity for local government and residents to work together to achieve this. I look forward to the continued partnership between Spelthorne Borough Council, Surrey County Council and our champions as we seek to find new ways to respond to what has been a truly difficult time for many people in Spelthorne."

Launched on 5 November, the Spelthorne Covid Champions are a group of volunteers who will help communicate key messages to their own networks whether to friends, colleagues or neighbours.

At these meetings, the latest statistics were shared with information specific to Spelthorne and neighbouring Boroughs. Discussions on health and well-being, including stopping smoking and mental health. As well as Q&A sessions with representatives from the Council, Portfolio Holder for Community Well-being, Cllr Maureen Attewell and Public Health England.
