Spelthorne Borough Council is delighted to announce plans to build a new leisure centre for the Borough. The four week consultation will begin with a two day public exhibition on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 February at Spelthorne Leisure Centre where residents can view the full proposal. Representatives from Spelthorne Borough Council project team will be available to answer your questions and provide more information. This event will mark the launch of the consultation which will continue until Friday 10 April. Update: The consultation period has now been extended by two weeks

Feedback from the last public consultation in 2018 showed there was strong support and indeed need for a new leisure centre in Spelthorne and the main concern raised was the proposed location in Staines Park. The Council listened and took on-board all the comments from residents and is now proposing to build the leisure centre between the Council offices in Knowle Green and the current leisure centre site (which will ultimately be used for customer parking). The current centre will remain open whilst the new one is being built to ensure that leisure facilities remain available throughout. The proposed location benefits from being within walking distance of the Bus and Railway Stations in Staines and is close to bus stops on the Kingston Road.

Cllr Ian Harvey, Leader of Spelthorne Borough Council, said "As a local authority we still believe that building this new facility, featuring elite sport and community facilities, in the borough is the best for our residents, improving the wellness of our local community. The previous consultation exercise provided a great deal of useful information on what facilities people wanted to see in a new leisure centre. We received over 2,300 feedback forms which has informed these design proposals. This information, together with the results of extensive research and consultation with users, sports groups and Sport England, has been used in defining our latest proposal and design concept."

Cllr Attewell, Portfolio Holder for Community Wellbeing and Leisure, said "This proposed flagship leisure centre will offer a fresh modern design and a varied mix of facilities balanced with sustainable technology.  Facilities and activities that were highlighted as preferences in the 2018 survey results will be a focus, while meeting the high expectations of residents well into the future."

The consultation will be an opportunity for residents to share their views and thoughts on the scheme, location and plans for the proposed leisure centre building and facilities and an online questionnaire will be available for 4 weeks.
