Spelthorne Borough Council is most disappointed by recent reports that a final decision on a third runway at Heathrow is expected to be put back to next year.
Spelthorne Council has been a long standing supporter of the expansion of Heathrow on economic grounds whilst recognising the environmental and transport impacts that must also be addressed.
Cllr Denise Saliagopoulos, Cabinet Member for Economic Development, said: "Many Spelthorne residents are employed at the airport or in associated industries and the economic prosperity of the area is closely linked with the fortunes of Heathrow. The Council hoped that the government would consider the Commission's report quickly and make the decision this month so that detailed plans could then be developed."
Cllr Quentin Edgington, Leader of Spelthorne Council, said: "I am frustrated at the suggestion that this important decision is to be delayed. Whilst the Council understands that this is a difficult decision, any delay inevitably prolongs the uncertainty and is the worst possible outcome for our residents and businesses."
