Spelthorne Council has welcomed the Government's announcement of a 16-week consultation on their draft National Policy Statement (NPS) regarding Heathrow expansion.

A NPS sets out the policy that applies to decisions on whether major infrastructure projects can go ahead. The consultation is your opportunity to have your say. This is an important milestone in the delivery of Heathrow's expansion plans.

There will be a series of local events to provide further information and answer questions. These are open to everyone and there is no need to book a place. Events are being held in every local authority bordering the airport, including Spelthorne Leisure Centre on Monday 20 February and Stanwell Moor Village Hall on Tuesday 28 February (11am - 8pm). Other dates and venues are available.

You can respond to the consultation online at https://www.gov.uk/dft/heathrow-airport-expansion by 11.45pm on 25 May.

Leader of Spelthorne Borough Council, Cllr Ian Harvey, said: "I am delighted to see that the Government is getting on with the next steps to deliver expansion at Heathrow. This Council is a long-standing supporter of Heathrow because of the opportunities it will bring for jobs, apprenticeships and significantly improving economic prosperity of the Borough. We look forward to working with Heathrow to ensure that expansion is delivered responsibly and that the interests of our residents and businesses are represented at all times."
